We are delighted to welcome Phoebe Nelson to the Ethnomusicology Archive as the new Ethnomusicology Archive Librarian. Phoebe has a six-month temporary appointment beginning September 1st.
Phoebe received her MLIS from UCLA in June of this year and graduated with distinction. She has worked in the Archive since April 2006, first processing the Italian Oral History Collection and currently digitizing and preserving field recordings made by D.K. Wilgus (this project has been funded by the Archive's Grammy grant). Phoebe has worked at the UCLA Multimedia & Information Technology Lab since May 2005. Her many duties there included setting up audiovisual equipment, updating the department website, and assisting students in the use of networked information resources, online services, print and other multimedia resources. In Spring 2005, she created a quick-reference handbook on the Chicano Studies movement within UCLA for the UCLA Chicano Studies Library. In 2005/2006, she provided reference services and information literacy instruction at both the Palos Verdes Public Library and the California State University Long Beach Library. Phoebe is already active in professional organizations; in 2005/2006 she was a member of the Diversity Recruitment & Mentoring Committee of the Information Studies Department and she was the UCLA Student Chapter Co-President for the American Library Association.
