Jessie Vallejo
Jessie Vallejo is a PhD student in UCLA's ethnomusicology program. Her research focuses on music transmission and indigenous music of the Americas (primarily of the Kanien'kehá:ka/Mohawk from New York and Canada and the Kichwa Runa from Ecuador). Other interests include mariachi, music of Latin America and Spain, music of China, violin pedagogy, and arranging. Jessie performs with Mariachi de Uclatlán, and has also performed with the BlueGrassHoppers and the UCLA Silk & Bamboo ensembles. Before attending UCLA, she worked as a string instructor following the completion of the BM in Music Education, Performance, and Spanish at the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam.
